Dr. Kotler does not participate with or accept any third party, private, or commercial insurances. Payments are due at the time of service.

For each visit, Dr. Kotler creates an invoice/receipt containing all necessary insurance coding information and provides this documentation to the patient/family. Many families choose to submit these invoices to their insurance company for reimbursement, based on their individual plan coverage.

Dr. Kotler answers all of her own phone calls. She is available to her patients for questions or concerns. Her concierge, boutique style practice means her patients never have to feel alone. Once under her care, you are part of her patient family. She knows you and your child well and you receive truly personal care.

Dr. Kotler spends as much time as needed with her patients. Initial behavioral consultants usually last 2 – 2 1⁄2 hours.

Medication follow-up visits generally take 30 minutes.

Behavioral follow-up visits are scheduled for an hour.

Follow-up medication visits are typically scheduled once a month when initiating and titrating new medications. Younger patients may be scheduled more frequently, following the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines regarding psychotropic medications.

Follow-up maintenance visits for stable medication monitoring are usually required every three months.

Dr. Kotler does not participate in pharmacy automated prescription refill programs. Prescriptions are carefully monitored and adjusted based on an individual patients’ needs. Dr. Kotler evaluates the need for medication refills during follow-up visits to ensure her patients have access to correct dosages and amounts and do not run out of their medications between visits. If there is ever an issue with medication refills, her patients are instructed to contact Dr. Kotler directly.

Prescriptions for controlled substances (such as ADD/ADHD stimulant medications) cannot be phoned into your pharmacy and paper prescriptions must be picked up from the office. Dr. Kotler requests that you contact her at least 4 – 5 days before your child’s ‘last pill’ is taken because they can take a few days to process.

Insurance plans may choose not to approve coverage of certain medication without prior authorization. When this situation arises, Dr. Kotler will usually alert you in advance and review the process for prior authorization with your family. Insurance may take a week or two to approve a prescription before a patient can receive the medication. Sometimes the barrier is not apparent until the pharmacy alerts the patient that insurance is requiring a prior authorization. If that happens, please inform Dr. Kotler right away so that she can begin the process for getting approval.

Dr. Kotler works with her patients’ families to ensure access to the best possible care. She will first try to navigate approval through insurance, but if that isn’t possible, she may suggest programs through the pharmaceutical companies directly or discuss more affordable alternative options.

Telemedicine fees for all types of visits are the same as the equivalent in-person office visit fees.

No. Dr. Kotler only charges for her ‘face time’ during visits. All other forms of communication between visits are included as part of the boutique services she provides for her patients.
